5 Easy and Practical Wedding Day Suggestions For The Bride

Who is the most important person at the wedding? Of course, it is the bride. Why then do so many brides forget about taking care of themselves on their wedding day, whilst selflessly ensuring that their guests are catered for in every way possible? It is important that the small, but very important, details do not escape the bride’s attention when she is organising her wedding day.

The over-riding priority for every bride on her wedding day is often overlooked – that she should be able to relax and enjoy her very special day. Whether you have planned and organised your wedding yourself or shared the load with a wedding planner assisting you, on your wedding day you deserve to be a guest at your own wedding, enjoying the fun and the occasion.

Here are our five straightforward suggestions to help with easing the wedding day for the bride:

1. Wedding Day Make-Up

Have a practice run! A couple of weeks before your wedding date do the ‘full makeover’ test (including hairstyle, make-up and wedding shoes). Keep everything on for the full length of time that you expect it to last out on the wedding day, so you know it will stand the test of time. This will also benefit you from a little ‘wearing in’ for your wedding shoes.

Put yourself a small make-up bag together so that you can make those little touch ups over the wedding day to keep your looks at their best. Give this to a close friend or your mother to have on hand as you need it. We recommend waterproof mascara and remember to include hairspray in your bag.

HINT: When you buy your make-up for the wedding day persuade the cosmetics sales staff to give you samples of each item you’re buying (you know they have them – and they want to make the sale, don’t they?!). These sample packs will take less room in your make-up bag and will be sufficient to use for touch ups over the day.

2. Create a Wedding Day Emergency Kit

Be prepared for the unexpected by compiling a kit to cover those ‘emergency’ situations that can arise. A small bag containing a travel sewing kit, a few safety pins (many disasters have been averted by a simple safety pin!), clear nail varnish (to conceal tights/stockings runs), a spare pair of tights or stockings, throat lozenges and paracetamol tablets. You could even add tissues, tampons, band-aids and hand cream to make your ‘emergency kit’ even more comprehensive. Even if these things aren’t needed by the bride, there is every chance that one of the guests will be very grateful that you had the foresight to cover these ‘emergencies’. When the kit is complete, mother (bride’s or groom’s) is a good candidate to nominate to have this to hand at the wedding.

HINT: Most of the items for this emergency kit can be found in travel size containers in the supermarket.

3. Start Your Wedding Day With Some Nourishment

You have a long day ahead of you and you won’t be eating until after the wedding service is concluded and all of the guests are assembled for the reception. Even then, with so much happening, many newlywed couples eat little at the reception. Whist food may be the last priority you have on your wedding day it is important that you start your day with a nourishing breakfast. You’ll need lots of energy to see you through your long and wonderful day so that you can sustain all of the socialising and dancing until the late hours.

HINT 1: Add a ‘power snack’ bar to your emergency kit

HINT 2: Arrange for some food to be available for the bride and groom on arrival at the honeymoon suit. After such an exciting and energetic day most couples are hungry by the time they arrive at the honeymoon hotel and this is an ideal time to ‘re-fuel’.

4. Look after your feet

Those glitzy, strappy, sexy, ultra-high heels that work so perfectly with your wedding dress will be great for the ceremony and the photographs, but will your poor feet survive the whole day teetering atop those fashion statements? If you plan to get through your reception and evening, socialising and dancing the night away you may wish to give some thought to your own comfort later in the wedding day. Kick off those heels and change into a more practical comfortable pair of shoes to keep your dogs from “barking” for the entire honeymoon!

HINT: It’s a great idea to practice walking around in the shoes that you have chosen to wear with your wedding dress. Take your wedding shoes for a test run to get used to them and to wear them in a little before the big day (see suggestion 1).

5. Keep the wedding day flowing with a ‘point person’

Whatever time your marriage ceremony is scheduled for your wedding day will have an itinerary, a timetable for when the different events of the day are expected to happen. Your carefully planned day needs to tick along like clockwork, so it’s worth appointing a ‘point person’ to help keep things on schedule. Make copies of your itinerary and give them to a couple of good friends or close family members and you can enjoy your day knowing that your trusted friends will keep things moving along, while you attend to the more enjoyable aspects of your wedding day.
